Things to Do -

You’ll be amazed by the number of places to see and things to do in and around the area. Browse our brochures and bulletin board outside the office for ideas or ask our knowledgeable staff for recommendations.

Get in touch with nature by taking advantage of nearby hiking. Find a plethora of hikes at    or head out to the biking trails in Montreat. Go rock climbing, or horseback riding all within minutes of our campground.

There are hundreds of waterfalls scattered throughout our region. You can also hop into the water with canoeing and whitewater rafting or fishing! If you plan to visit in the winter months, bring your skis and hit the slopes!

Asheville has plenty of events happening year round and many sightseeing opportunities. Antique and specialty shops, galleries, arts and culture, a farmer’s market, and tasty restaurants are all part of what makes the Asheville area great. Spend the day perusing the River Arts District or plan your trip around a festival or event to really see the town come alive! Check out the Event Calendar to plan your stay.

If brewery hopping is your thing there are several just a short distance away. Some of the more popular places include Black Mountain BrewingBurial BeerHighland Brewing, and Pisgah Brewing Company. Many are dog friendly so don’t leave Fido behind!

Visit Explore Asheville for more fun and exciting things to do during your stay.

Please Note: Animals are not allowed in our campground buildings or lodgings so please plan accordingly.

The Historic Biltmore Estate

Be sure to check out America’s largest home: the historic Biltmore Estate. This iconic property is located on 8,000 acres just minutes from Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground. In addition to touring the house there is also a winery located on the grounds.

We suggest purchasing advance tickets to the Biltmore Estate through their website as they are still limiting attendance due to the ongoing pandemic.

Tickets often sell out quickly for weekends and special events. The Biltmore reservations line phone number is: 800.411.3812.
