Campground Policies

We sincerely appreciate you considering a stay at Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground. Please familiarize yourself with our policies prior to booking a reservation. Our policies are in place for everyone’s protection!
We are carved out of the mountainside with rock features, mountain streams, steep grades and narrow roads. We are also home to abundant wildlife.
We think the views and peaceful atmosphere are worth it but look at our 360-degree virtual tour and decide for yourself!

Arrivals:
Due to the unique nature and size of our campground, we are unable to accommodate guests for early check-in or for late arrivals. Please plan your trip accordingly and allow extra time for traffic and unexpected events. We do not give refunds if you are unable to reach the campground prior to closing and you need to make alternate arrangements. Our insurance requires staff to escort each RV to the assigned site, even if you have stayed with us before. Refer to our check-in policy for additional information. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation.

We take pride in our facilities and ask that you be respectful and clean up after yourself. If you find one of our facilities needs attention, please contact the office. We can’t fix something we don’t know is broken!

Bathrooms and Showers: Please close the curtain when done to allow it to dry. Remove all clothing, towels, and personal products before exiting.

Laundry: Out of respect for other guests and our cleaning staff please do not leave laundry unattended. Unattended laundry may be removed at any time. Mama Gertie’s owners, management and staff are not responsible for unattended laundry. Please do not use the machines to launder waterproof or flammable items as they can cause damage. Please do not launder pet items due to allergies. A fine of $250.00 will be assessed for violation and you will be ejected from the park.

Adults are responsible for children’s bicycles while in the park. Bicycle traffic is limited to road/street areas only, do not ride on any sites either occupied or vacant. 

Please observe the 7.5 mph speed limit for both pedal and electric bicycles. Be aware of wildlife, guests, and domestic animals while riding. Helmets are strongly recommended.

We do not offer credit card refunds for any reason.

Cancellations/changes must be made in writing via email no later than 1:00 pm EST on the day of arrival for daily/weekly RV sites and lodging.

Advance notice is appreciated!

If applicable, a gift certificate will be issued if notice is received in writing on or before 1:00 pm EST on the day of arrival. Certificates are valid for one year from date of issue, in the amount of the original reservation less registration fees, and membership or merchandise purchases.

Cancellations or changes must be sent from the original email used to make the reservation to [email protected] with Cancel or Change in the subject. Phone calls, voicemail, and texts are not accepted.

Monthly reservations are non-refundable, and no gift certificate will be issued. 

No shows for all reservation types will result in forfeiture of the entire reservation fee. 

You will be considered a No Show if you have not contacted us and are not checked in by the close of business on the day of arrival. You will be considered a No Show if you have not arranged to alter your stay dates or cancel your reservation by 1:00 pm the day of arrival. Communication is key. We want you to enjoy your stay and are happy to assist you in changing your dates or canceling your reservations should something come up.

We do not allow vehicle camping in our park for safety and insurance purposes.

RV sites:  April 1st through November 1st is between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. We appreciate you arriving by 4:00 pm.

November 1st through April 1st is between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. We appreciate you arriving by 3:00 pm.

Lodging:  April 1st through November 1st is between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

  • Our office closes promptly at 5:00 pm and you may not enter the campground unescorted for insurance purposes and the safety of our guests, staff and wildlife.
  • Please plan your travel accordingly and allow extra time for unexpected events, especially during weekends and holidays.
  • All guests must check-in at the office to receive your site assignment, vehicle tag(s), and information pertinent to your stay. Our automated system assigns sites at check-in.
  • Insurance requires staff to escort all RVs to the assigned site. Please make sure you pull into the parking lot as space allows and register in the office. Please do not block the driveways! There is only one way in and one way out of the campground.
  • Anyone entering the campground without an escort may be ejected from the campground without a refund. Our insurance requires escorts even if you have stayed with us before. This is for your safety, and that of our other guests, staff and animals.

Please vacate your site no later than 11:00 am so that we may prepare it for the next guest.

If you would like to extend, please check with our reservation desk before 10 am on your day of departure.

Extensions are based on availability and the same site is not guaranteed.

We accept current Good Sam membership discounts.

We offer a discount to current or former service people, as well as Veterans.

Proof of current membership status or military affiliation is required at check-in.

*Discounts cannot be applied once your reservation is paid for in full.*

Please contact the office if you have difficulty applying applicable discounts.

Drone use is not permitted anywhere on the property including the airspace above the park.

Please respect the privacy of our guests, staff, and tenants.

If you have questions, please contact the office.

Please make sure your electric cable is in good condition. Cables with cracked or missing housing, frays, or other damage may not connect to our pedestals.

Extension cords must be sized appropriately. All extension cords must be rated for outdoor use and at least medium duty.

EV Charging: Our infrastructure does not support EV charging on sites. Contact the office if you need to charge your EV.

Please do not tamper with our pedestals or electrical equipment. Contact the office or call the emergency line if after business hours.

Please do not charge electric vehicles at your site, even on the 110V outlet. Our infrastructure does not support it.

If you need to charge your electric vehicle, contact the office for instructions.

Please do not move fire pits or picnic tables without permission from a staff member.

Do not burn or leave trash in pits/rings.

Please do not leave a fire unattended at any time.

Please do not put barbecues or camp stoves on picnic tables.

Please do not place fire pits/rings on grass, wood decks, or on picnic tables.

Damages will be charged to the credit card on file.

We do not allow outside firewood to be brought into our campground. We offer kiln dried hardwood for sale, delivered right to your site.

We support North Carolina and Buncombe County efforts to limit the spread of invasive species and disease.

These items are not permitted under any circumstances.

  • Our security gate is open during regular business hours. The access code to the gate is provided at check-in and is required to enter the campground outside of normal business hours.
  • You will be given an emergency phone number to call outside business hours.
  • Please do not leave messages on the main campground telephone for emergency issues. Call the emergency phone number listed on your car tag. The emergency number will be sent via text message after check-in.
  • Please do not disturb our tenants! If you need assistance after hours, call the emergency phone number. Please leave a voicemail and the on-call staff member will return your call promptly.
    • Anyone disturbing our tenants may be asked to vacate the campground!
  • We do not offer credit card refunds.
  • Cancellations/changes must be made in writing by 1:00 pm EST on the day of arrival for daily/weekly RV sites and lodging.
    • Cancellations or changes must be received from the original email used on the reservation.
    • All cancellations or changes should be sent to [email protected] with the words CANCEL or CHANGE in the subject.
    • Phone calls, voicemail, and texts are not accepted.
  • If applicable, a gift certificate in the amount of the original reservation less registration fees, and membership or merchandise purchases will be issued if received in writing by 1:00 pm EST on the day of arrival.
  • Covid-19 cancellations are subject to our regular cancellation/change policies. 
  • Monthly reservations are non-refundable, and no gift certificates will be issued. 
  • No shows for all reservation types will result in forfeiture of the entire reservation fee. 
  • We do not issue refunds to credit cards or gift certificates for inclement weather, early departure, voluntary site moves, ejection from our campground, or any other reason after arrival.
  • We do not offer refunds for unapplied discounts.

All guests and visitors must be registered with the office.

Guests are responsible for the actions of their children and visitors.

Guests are financially responsible for any damage incurred by children or visitors.

Guests and visitors are expected to comply with all regulations, including state and federal laws.

Visitors must register at the office to obtain a car pass and are subject to a facility fee.

Car passes must be displayed prominently from the rear-view mirror or dashboard, so the site number and dates of stay are clearly visible.

All visitors must vacate the campground by 10:00 pm. Overnight visitors must be registered with the office.

Most holiday weekends require a 3-night stay.

Regular weekends require a 2-night stay.

The maximum length of stay from April 1 – November 1 is 14 nights.

We offer weekly and monthly rates from November 1 through March 1.

RV site camping fees include 4 persons, with a maximum of 6 people per RV site.

A facility fee is charged for additional guests in excess of 4 people per night for the duration of stay. 

Lodging accommodations have different occupancy maximums.

Monthly site fees include 2 guests, additional guests incur a facility fee for each month of stay.

No shows will result in forfeiture of all funds. If you have not changed your arrival date in writing by 1:00 pm on the date of arrival, you will forfeit the entire reservation amount. 

You will be considered a No Show if:

You have not contacted us and are not checked in by the close of business on the day of arrival.

You have not arranged to alter your stay dates or cancel your reservation by 1:00 pm the day of arrival.

Communication is key! We want you to enjoy your stay and are happy to assist you in changing your dates or canceling your reservations should something come up.

Park only in designated areas.

Parking on grass, patios, decks, vacant sites, or roads is prohibited.

No vehicles may protrude into the road or on another site.

All vehicles must display a parking pass obtained in the office.

Vehicles without a valid pass are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

Campground Policies
Payments:

All reservations require non-refundable payment in full and must be secured with a credit card.  

We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.

Monthly sites require non-refundable payment in full for the first month of stay.

An electric deposit is collected at check-in.

We no longer accept cash for reservations or store purchases, propane, and firewood.

Our laundry and vending machines accept exact change.

Change machines are located across from the laundry in our main building on the 1st tier, and in the laundry facility on our 3rd tier.

All purchases will be charged to the credit card on file.

We love pets, but they must be walked on a leash of 6′ or less in length (no retractable leads) and in your control.

Children under the age of 18 are not allowed to walk pets.

Aggressive animals of any breed will not be tolerated.

There is a limit of 2 pets per site and are not to be left unattended at any time.

Pets are not allowed to disturb other campers. Constant or frequent barking may result in ejection from the campground without refund.

Please utilize a pet sitter or local daycare facility.

We no longer allow pens, crates, fencing or tie outs/stakes of any type. We do not allow electronic fences for the safety of your animals, guests and staff.

Please pick up your animal’s waste and dispose of it in the provide containers. Anyone found not picking up after their animal will be ejected from the park without refund.

Do not allow animals to dig holes or create an unsightly appearance on the site or anywhere on the grounds.

Damage to buildings, decks, trees, plants, or any campground property may result in additional charges or ejection from the campground.

Do not walk animals outside our maintained grounds. There are wild animals, snakes, and indigenous plants in and around the campground that may be harmful or fatal to you or your animal.

Animals are not allowed in the camp store, registration office, any campground building, safari tents, cabins or other facilities. 

Please do not wash/dry animal bedding in any of our laundry facilities in consideration of our guests and staff with allergies. A fine of $250.00 will be assessed for violation and you may be ejected from the park.

Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am daily.

Please keep music and noise levels low during the day.

Be respectful of your neighbors at all times.

Generator use is prohibited.

Our reservation system automatically assigns sites the day of arrival.

Reservations may be made online 24/7 or by calling our office during normal business hours.

Our online system is real-time and has the most up to date information and availability.

25 years old is the minimum age to rent an RV site or lodging.

Site fees include 4 guests, with up to 6 guests allowed per site. Additional guests are subject to a facility fee for the duration of the stay.

 

By making a reservation at Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground, you agree that we may charge any additional fees, and purchases or damages to the credit card on file. 

Please do not remove rocks from the landscape or retaining walls.

Please do not climb rocks, walls, flowers, bushes, trees or allow children or visitors to do so.

           Please do not molest wildlife in the campground.

Bears, coyotes, raccoons, squirrels, snakes, birds and more live in and around the campground. Please take care to stay on campground roads and maintained areas.

Do not feed or leave food out and accessible to animals.

Please do not chop, pick, or in any way damage trees, bushes, and plants in the campground.

 

Please do not throw trash or put anything in our streams. We are on a well and these items can leach into our water supply.

We do not have an age requirement however; we reserve the right to refuse service to any camper and/or tow/towed vehicle based on appearance or condition.

For insurance reasons, only RVIA certified RVs are allowed in our campground. This includes but is not limited to motorhomes, truck campers, 5th wheels, travel trailers.

For insurance reasons we cannot accommodate “tiny homes”, DIY units, converted vans or buses.

We do not allow motorcycle/horse trailers with living quarters or park model RVs.

 

All motorized vehicles must be in operational condition and have current registration, license plate, and inspection if applicable. 

If you are renting an RV from RVshare, Outdoorsy, Cruise America, or other platform, please contact the office for further information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your rental agent or the RV owner.

 

We do not rent RVs. 

Sewer hoses and connections must be in good repair and tightly fitted.

Replacements and sewer donuts are available in our store.

We are on a septic system, please do not put anything, including grease, food, plastic, gloves, bottles, feminine products, or flushable wipes in our bathrooms, sewer hookups or dump station.

Chemicals other than those specifically for black or gray tanks are prohibited from being released into our sewer hookups or dump station.

Outdoor items should be neatly stowed under the camper, with all cords, cables and hoses coiled and bundled when not in use.

We do not allow outside refrigerators, freezers, generators or other equipment to be stored outside the RV or connected to our electric system.

We do not allow tires, drums, or other containers to be stacked or stored outside.

Please do not hang or affix a clothesline outside your RV or lodging site.

All towels, bathing suits, and laundry should be hung inside to dry/air.

Please keep your area, including grass, free of all items, including bicycles, toys, decorations, etc.

Please do not bring or erect swimming pools or portable spas.

Smoking of any kind is not allowed in any campground building, safari tent, cabin, or indoor facility.

Please extinguish smoking materials completely before discarding. Discard in approved containers. Do not place smoking materials in trash cans.

Alcohol is allowed in discrete containers on your site only and consumed responsibly.

Illicit drugs are not tolerated anywhere on our property.

Anyone causing a disturbance or exhibiting public intoxication from any substance may be ejected from the campground.

We reserve the right to eject any guest or visitor causing a disturbance for any reason, without recourse or refund.

The speed limit is 7.5 mph on all roads in the campground.

We strictly enforce the speed limit for the safety of our guests, staff and animal life.

We reserve the right to eject guests or deny vehicle access to the campground for violation.

We no longer offer tent camping.

Tents may not be erected on any RV or lodging site.

We offer a safari tent experience for your enjoyment.

We offer complimentary trash pickup from 9:00 am to 11:00 am daily.

We have a dumpster located in our front parking lot for your convenience.

Please flatten all cardboard for disposal. Household waste only.

One vehicle and one camper are allowed per RV site and one vehicle is allowed per lodging site.

No vehicle can protrude into the flow of traffic.

Extra vehicles are subject to a parking fee per night for duration of stay.

All vehicles must be registered with the campground office, have a valid state license plate, and obtain a parking pass from the main office at check-in.

Be prepared to show proof of insurance at any time.

Golf carts, ATV’s or other motorized recreational vehicles are prohibited.

Motorcycles and loud vehicles may be asked to park in our main parking lot.

Excessive noise and idling of vehicles are prohibited.

No mechanical repairs to vehicles or RVs are allowed, except for licensed mobile repair services.

Please notify the office if you are expecting a repair person.

All vendors must register with the office and receive a tag.

We are on a well and septic system; please do not wash any vehicles.

Campers are responsible for their visitors’ actions and financially responsible for any damage.

Visitors must register at the office and pay the visitor fee to obtain a car pass.

Car passes must be displayed prominently so our staff can read your site number and dates of stay.

All visitors must vacate the campground by 10:00 pm.

We recommend the use of pressure regulators for the water connection.

We do not allow the use of swimming pools or portable spas in the park.

Please do not waste water, we are on a well and have a limited supply due to ongoing drought conditions.

We may impose an excessive use fee for guests found wasting water or washing vehicles.

Discharging wastewater on the ground is illegal.

Please be conscious of contamination of the well and mountain streams on campground property.

Leaks of waste or fresh water must be corrected immediately.

Violators are subject to a fine and possible ejection from the campground.

We reserve the right to refuse continued guest privileges to offenders of park rules.

By law, Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground is a service-oriented business. We do not have a tenant/landlord relationship with any guests or visitors.

For loss or injury: RV park guests shall indemnify and hold harmless Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground, EL Holdings North Carolina, LLC, its directors, officers, agents and employees from any and all claims, liability and expenses, loss, damage, costs including but not limited to attorney and other professional fees, award, fine or judgment for injury to person(s), through acts of God, loss of life or damage to property arising out of the guest’s exercise of their rights hereunder, guest’s alleged or actual negligent act, regardless of whether such act is active or passive, except as may be solely caused by the gross negligence or intentional acts of Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground, EL Holdings North Carolina, LLC, its officers and/or employees.
